This openwork brooch depicts an Urnes style animal. It features possibly a large animal fighting the snake entwined around its body and limbs, a symbol of the struggle between good and evil. It is based on a find from Trollashogur, Iceland. The style of the design dates the original to the 11th Century, towards the end of the Viking Age.
This Brooch is handmade in Asgard's workshop in Scotland and is cast in lead-free solid Pewter.
Pewter is a malleable metal alloy that is composed mostly of tin and is often used in jewelry because of its strength and durability.
