Miyamoto Musashi, also known as Shinmen Takezō, Miyamoto Bennosuke or, by his Buddhist name, Niten Dōraku, was a Japanese swordsman, philosopher, strategist, writer, and rōnin. Miyamoto Musashi abided by a strict set of 21 precepts for life to groom himself into becoming Japan's greatest samurai. 

He is the most famous samurai today as a result of his highly acclaimed martial arts text, The Book of Five Rings.
